Night Vision

Went on an adventure the other night to try and make some long exposure shots. Lesson learned: next time, bring a tripod.

Central Square is On Fire!

On the night of Friday, June 26, 2010, a group of folks embarked from 70 Prospect St. on an adventure to the madness that was the Central Square Dance Party. Road blocks were set up on Massachusetts Avenue between Bigelow Street and Inman Street, and from the hours of 7-11pm, people from all around the Boston area came to get in on the gigantic outdoor fiesta.

Before the madness, at 70 Prospect...

During the madness...

After the madness...

For one night, Cambridge really came alive and joined as a community for 4 hours of dance, music, and sweat. This will definitely go down as one of the highlights of my time spent in the Central Square neighborhood.

Jim's Big Ego @ The Burren

A few nights ago, I had my first photo shoot for WERS.org. The assignment sent me to The Burren, a bar in Somerville, where the band Jim's Big Ego has a short summer residency. It was a very interesting performance to say the least, but instead of telling you about it here and posting all of my photos, check in at WERS.org for the full article with a review by Ben Tan.

Festival Today

On my way home, I came across a scene outside the Park Street station. A group of U.S. Army soldiers were having an argument with the homeless woman who frequently sets up shop outside the station. When I came into the argument, the woman was yelling at the men to leave her alone, while the men yelled back at her to get a job, frequently referencing the fact that they had served in Iraq.

A woman approached me as I was taking photos and asked me what was going on. After I explained the situation to the best of my ability, she walked over to the soldiers and began to confront them about their behavior.

O'Gara, the alpha of the squad, explained to this bystander that they had been harassed by the homeless woman. After restating the fact that he had served in Iraq, O'Gara was interrupted by the bystander who implored him to leave the woman alone.

O'Gara promptly mocked her sympathy for the homeless woman and continued to bark at her while Hattersley, the tag-along, stood by.

I guess being homeless is un-American. So is being the bigger man.

Southern Fried Funk

After their freshman year of college, Southern Fried Funk reunited to play a show at Starland Ballroom in scenic Sayreville, New Jersey. The headlining band was The Outlaws...needless to say the majority of the crowd was South Jerseyans. I think the below photo pretty much sums up the crowd my brother's band was playing for.

Southie, pt. 1

Southie, pt. 2

I took this pseudo-series for my Digital Imaging class. I had originally intended to photograph around the ICA, but while biking I decided to take a turn and head down A Street towards Broadway. Even though after not too long it started to pour and I had to find refuge, I like to think the weather was appropriate for capturing this neighborhood.

Drummer at Weirdo Records

On my way home from Harvard square, stumbled upon a live performance in Weirdo Records. Luther Gray, a Boston local jazz/experimental drummer, was performing a solo improvised percussion set. While I was there, Gray spent a good 10 minutes on the floor tom alone, beating the drum with one stick while pressing the other into the skin to alter the pitch. After the first solo, he simply placed his sticks down on the kick drum, looked up, adjusted his glasses, and then grabbed a set of brushes to begin the next solo.
